Anti VoIP Cable CompaniesAnti VoIP Cable companies in the US and Canada are trying to quash VoIP in an attempt to secure their future from the threatening technology. Recently feeling the attacks are the VoIP service provider Vonage where anti VoIP cable companies such as Comcast are reported to be purposely degrading the quality of Vonage connections. The alleged anti VoIP action by Comcast is of high concern to Vonage service users. The anti VoIP allegations are being enthusiastically debated with over 350 replies and over 35,000 views in a Comcast anti VoIP discussion thread regarding the degradation of the Vonage service for Comcast users. Similarly another company, Canada's Shaw Communications offers its own VoIP service and charges customers who use another service provider a $10 "packet prioritization" fee for Quality of Service enhancements. Although not strictly anti VoIP this move appears to be an attempt to repel the competition, thus slowing the progression of VoIP to an accessible platform which holds extensive financial benefits to the consumer. In response to these sorts of actions from anti VoIP cable companies Vonage has complained to the Canadian Radio and Television commission and their complaint is being considered. Anti VoIP companies will be playing close attention to this complaint because an outcome in their favor could open the doors to further anti VoIP type action from these cable companies and others. |
