Skype Cell Phone Announced

A new Skype cell phone has been tipped to be launched worldwide this summer, it is already available in Singapore. The new Skype cell phone is from the company SMC networks. The model number is WSKP100 and the new cell phone will work using a Wi Fi connection and boasts the free and cheap calls that Skype PC users experience.

A Wi Fi connection is basically a wireless internet connection on a large scale. Large cities worldwide are now implementing Wi FI connections allowing people to use the internet from anywhere within the city. This does limit the use of the Skype cell phone to certain city limits but with Wi Fi on the increase these phones will soon become increasingly popular due to the cheap calls offered.

The SMC WSKP100 is one of the first carrier independent VoIP cell phones to hit the market. The Skype cell phone uses Skype software to make the calls and has many of the functions of a typical cell phone. The cell phone uses QoS functionality that prioritizes voice packets over data traffic on the Wi Fi networks resulting in good consistent voice quality. Additionally the Skype cell phone comes with Wired Equivalent Privacy for call security.

The cost of the Skype cell phone will be approx. $199. As long as users have a valid Skype account and live in an area with a Wi Fi connection then they are free to make a variety of Skype phone calls including Skype to Skype phone calls, Skype to landline or cell phone calls and the ability to be called from any other phone using the Skype-in service.
