Google Talk Landline Calls with Talqer

Google recently launched their VoIP and instant messaging service Google Talk which also has the ability to also make PC to PC voice calls. However it is not possible to make Google Talk landline calls with the standard Google Talk software.

Fortunately Google made Google Talk a standard application which was open source meaning that other companies could look at how the software was made and make changes or integrate their software with it. One company, Vozin Communications, set out to make Google Talk landline calls possible. Vozin Communications integrated their own VoIP software called Talqer with Google Talk meaning that you can now use Google Talk to make landline calls and also receive them.

Talqer works in a very similar way to Skype and has similar services such as their equivalent Talqin and Talqout services. Talqer boasts that all their services are cheaper than Skype too. Landline calls cost less and the cost of their Talqin service (equivalent to Skypein) costs less than what it would cost for the same service with skype. The Talqin service gives you your own landline number on which people can call you through the Talquin software from any phone. The only restrictions is that the area codes are based in the US and Canada. International alternatives may become available in the future.

With Talqer being the first to offer Google Talk landline calls and being able to out compete Skype on the cost this could be a promising company. However this all depends on what we see from the next release of Google Talk where landline calls may be included as standard.
