VoIP Security Attacks

Saturday, April 08, 2006

VoIP is continually growing in popularity however there is growing concern over VoIP security. There are two major VoIP security loopholes and as the technology becomes more popular and hackers become more used to the technology it will become a greater issue.

The first VoIP security issue is where someone can hijack a users VoIP subscription and subsequent communications. The second VoIP security risk is where someone can eavesdrop and record someone’s call. Industry experts believe that these attacks will become more of a problem with the wider adoption of VoIP and a growth in the understanding of the technology. One of the major concerns is that these attacks will be used for financial gain by powering fraud.

VoIP vendors have been slow to address these VoIP security threats but this will need to change as this technology continues to grow.
