Skype Buys VoIP StartupsSkype, the leading worldwide VoIP service provider has announced that it plans to purchase two small VoIP startups. Skype, which was recently purchased by eBay in a $2.6 billion deal, is now looking to purchase the two VoIP startups using eBay stock in a deal worth approx. $27 million. The two VoIP startups are called Camino and Sonorit. By purchasing the VoIP startups Skype hopes to bring in the two companies expertise and use it to improve their own VoIP services. The transaction will also give Skype access to technology which it currently has to lease from a third party. It is expected that this year mergers, takeovers and bidding wars should be rife as the VoIP industry begins to boom. |
