Texas Instruments Unveils PIQUA Software

Texas Instruments has recently unveiled PIQUA a unique new piece of
software that will improve the quality of VoIP services and better administer services to mainstream consumers and businesses. Texas Instruments has partnered with industry leaders such as Motive, Inc. and Viola Networks, to create PIQUA.

PIQUA will enable service providers to offer an advanced level of service quality to subscribers utilizing such services as VoIP, Video over IP, IPTV, as well as Internet music management services. PIQUA, sits in the VoIP gateways, it can detect problems, such as echo, dropped packets or line delays, make adjustments, which will improve VoIP call quality overall.

The development of PIQUA software is based on Texas Instruments DSP
Technology and embedded software solutions. It is designed to monitor and improve the quality of VoIP services, enhance the VoIP users experience to make internet based platforms the first choice for consumers voice, data, and video needs. VoIP services have gained popularity among residential and business users mainly because of it's affordability versus tradtional phone line services.

The current problem with VoIP services is that they are not fully trusted to deliver high quality calls the 99.999% of the time which is something that consumers are accustomed to with traditional phone line services. Texas Instruments hopes that PIQUA can elevate VoIP services from just the affordabiltiy option to a more preferred method of overall communications.

No longer will VoIP service providers have to depend solely upon customer care representatives or technicians to resolve problems, PIQUA can detect and correct many issues before the VoIP service user is even aware of them. PIQUA gives technicians more visibility into the device diagnosing problems more easily which will in turn render remote technical assistance as being more effective.

Lindsay Schroth, Senior Analyst, Yankee Group comments: "Our studies show that as VoIP service providers continue to roll out new communications services, their ability to cost-effectively install, manage and support a growing subscriber base is an increasing challenge. As an embedded management tool, PIQUA provides operators a cost effective solution that enables them to gain greater visibility into their subscribers' experience, while more effectively managing their operating costs."

Texas Instruments has begun to enlist equipment and design manufacturers and third party suppliers of network provisioning tools to include PIQUA as a part of their products. The first implementations of the software will target VoIP applications, however Texas Instruments plans on utilizing PIQUA to improve all forms of IP network communication.
