Skype accepts Chinese CensorshipThe Chinese censorship that takes place on the internet has caused problems with a number of online companies. It was recently in the news that Google accepted restrictions on their search technology to allow their search services to be used in China. Now Skype is the latest company to accept the Chinese Censorship in their online chat program. Skype runs a joint venture in China called Tom Online. The majority of companies have already agreed to follow the Chinese online censorship. Automatic filters remove references such as 'Falun Gong' and 'Dalai Lama' which the Chinese government has decided to censor. Yahoo, Microsoft and Google have already agreed to censorship before Skype. Companies are left in a position to either not do business in China or follow Chinese censorship laws. This censorship currently effects communication via text messaging as VoIP to landline or cell phones is currently banned in China for 2 years restricting Skype's integration into the Chinese market. |
