Could Skype be used for Spam Calls?Skype spam calls could now become a growing problem since they have launched their new free landline and cell phone calls in the US and Canada. Email spam is currently very popular because its easy to harvest email addresses and sending email is very cheap. With calling costs now cut Skype spam could be a risk with spammers using the service to call landlines and cell phones. Hot VoIP News recently came across a Skype based Wardialer which would automate the Skype spam process. The Wardialer is called SkypeDiver Peacedialler which will call random numbers, record the results and play a wav file to those that answer. This is against Skype’s terms and conditions but terms and conditions have never stopped spammers before and even if IPs and other details were logged the spammers often find ways around this by using multiple identities. Skype could see itself entering a battle to prevent Skype being used as a medium to transmit spam. |
