New PSP Portable VOIP Phone in the pipeline!Saturday, March 25, 2006 Mr. Playstation (otherwise known as Ken Kutaragi) recently announced some of the new features to appear on the PSP that are in the pipeline. These include interactive video camera technology, GPS support (for when you get lost and only have your PSP to hand), Flash technology and even RSS support for online audio and video casts. However what is most interesting is the announcement of the PSP portable VoIP phone. The portable VoIP phone technology is set for release in October and will also include the ability of video phone calls to be made in a motion jpeg format. This will make the PSP not only an advanced handheld console but a portable VoIP phone and portable video phone making it competitive in the telecommunications industry. So if you are lost on a desert island after a plane crash with your PSP you could use the GPS function to locate yourself, use the portable VoIP phone function to call for a rescue crew and have a blast at GTA while you wait to be picked up. This recent turn to make the PSP a portable VoIP phone may come as a surprise but considering that Microsoft recently announced that 2-3 million Xbox Live customers use VoIP daily to voice chat with other gamers then turning the PSP into a portable VoIP phone seems like a logical step.
