DualPhone 3088 | Use Skype without a computer

Skype, as other web based services, has yet one drawback in the eyes of people that are not tech-savvy: it requires a computer. This requirement seriously harms the diffusion of this great software to people that to phone just do not see the need of a computer.

To still use Skype luckily then there are several option. One of the more advanced is to build a Skype server but most of us will simply buy a Skype phone. The latest player to launch a product in this market is RTX Products, a Danish company focused on wireless products.

Their device distributed by RTX Products is the DualPhone 3088. It is a handset whose base station is able to connect both to the traditional landline operator and to the Internet. Using the latter the user will be able to utilize Skype without having to use a computer but still taking advantage of the VOIP technology. The base station must be connected to the broadband router or modem but once it is setup the user can just forget about it.

The user will choose between free calls to other Skype user or calls to worldwide phones with the usual Skype rates. However if for some reason the utilization of the landline operator is needed the user just has to select it while still continuing to use the same phone. The interface, similar to the one used by the Skype computer application, is very easy to pick up even for people that never used a computer.

Other features of the DualPhone 3088 are a great sound quality and thanks to its cordless nature the user can be up to 300 meters far away from the station. The device is available in Europe for $206 and within one week will be also sold via the RTX Products online store.
